Happy 4th or Sod Off!

You may not like or agree with what your government does on your behalf at all times, but it beats being chucked off to Siberia for criticizing the government. Before you start whining about people not caring about what you have to say and calling that oppression, read up a little on what real oppression is like. Enjoy your freedom and stop pissing and moaing about what you don't like or live somewhere else. Your place will gladly be taken by someone who's willing to give their very lives to live in this country. This Fourth, why not show a little appreciation for what you do have? Just a thought.

My son went on a field trip to our state's capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri last year. Here's some photos:

A belated thank you.

I'm an immigrant, child of immigrants. My parents (and I) were always immensely appreciated and grateful for the liberties and opportunities offered here.

Life wasn't easy for my middle-aged parents who didn't speak English and had to take minimum wage jobs in less-than-ideal working conditions. But they didn't bitch. Why? Cause even in 1962 USA, with all the issues dark-skinned folks had BACK THEN, this was still the best place to come for those fleeing tyranny.

My kin left Cuba, dodging the soul-numbing totalitarianism of communism. My husband's kin left Hungary, dodging communist bullets. And we all ended up here, honored and grateful.

To this day, when I hear people bitching up and down about the USA, I say, "I dare you to go live in North Korea or Iran or Cuba or Nigeria or any other place that doesn't let you, for the most part, actually be who you are.

No one's taken me up on the offer.
